Another funny story told a lot growing up...

Don't Hang Up

My grandfather adored my brother Joey!  PJ would tote him around on Saturday afternoons and show him off to his friends. Then he would take him back to his house for sleepovers. They would have dinner and by early evening  PJ would fall asleep in front of the television in his easy chair. Joey hated this. He was bored and missed the (immediate) family. He wanted to go home so badly. He would call home a lot. Whichever family member he would speak to, would eventually tell him to hang up,  go to sleep and that they would see him in the morning. They would hang up but Joey would not. Back in those days, the connection on the telephone line could only be broken if both parties would hang up. Joey would stay on the line and hope for someone in the family to use the phone. And when they did, he'd still be on the other end. They would say...

"Hang up the phone Joey". He would think… “Don’t hang up”.
